Artist Note
"Being an immigrant Latina in the U.S. has had such an impact in my life, for good and bad. This print is special because it's a reminder that unless we're native to the land we live on, we're all immigrants. We must recognize most of the land in our planet was stolen from its Native people in the most brutal way. Yet, we're often treated as invaders, ironically not by the indigenous communities, but by the colonists themselves!
So, this art print is a statement of resistance to the colonialist mindset that wants to eradicate our brown and black identities and a statement of affirmation that there's no shame in being an immigrant. We're wanderers on this Earth.
And as some of you may already know, the 'x' in 'todxs' stands for gender inclusivity as opposed to using 'a' for female or 'o' for male. Our beautiful Spanish languages is so gendered in the binary system that it doesn't leave room for diverse gender identities that deserve to be visible too. The good news and bad news is that language is always changing and so the 'x' may already be outdated by today's standards but the spirit behind it still stands."
