Artist Note
"This is one of my favorites! I created this piece at a time I was being consumed by my job, a job I was deeply passionate about, mind you.  I was the founder and executive director of MiA - Mujeres in Action, a nonprofit serving Latine survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Spokane, WA. But as much as I loved my job, it was draining me faster than it was filling me up. I was struggling to be present with myself and my family. 
 
So, I began to create art as an escape. This is one of my first pieces. A reminder to myself that choosing to rest is an act of resistance against the toxic capitalistic society we live in, that treats us like machines and not humans. This piece was my cry for help. 
 
Today, I have this print hung in my office as a constant reminder that rest is not a luxury but a basic human need. It's regenerating and beautiful and I don't need to be completely exhausted to 'earn' my rest. I hope it's a gentle reminder to you as well, to love yourself, to take a break, to just be human."
